14/05/12: Truagh Premier Fantasy Football Results: Noel Clerkin retains his title, and records his 3rd title in 4 years, proving its obviously more than luck to win this league. Chris Todd, Aaron Treanor and Alan Doogan make up the champions league spaces. Wee Derry man holds up the table, though Mark Counihan was the most disappointed seeing his team go into administration during the season.
13/05/12: Senior Football League Rd 7: Clontibret 1-11 Gaeil Triucha 2-08; Despite being played in near winter conditions, in an enthralling match and vast improvement from Friday's game, we secured a league point with a last minute equaliser, 2-8 to 1-11. The first score of the game came from Adam Treanor when he found the net in the 3rd minute. We enjoyed most of the possession in the next 15 minutes and were 1-4 to 0-3 up in the 19th minute with points from Daniel McKenna, Eoghan Kelly & 2 from Paudie McKenna. It was the home side who finished stronger though, scoring 1-3 without reply in the remainder of the 1st half to leave us behind 1-4 to 1-6 at the break. Clontibret extending their lead on the restart before Chrissy McKenna converted a free. Clontibret added another point before Mark Counihan capitalised on an error in the Clontibret defence to be hauled down and win a penalty in the 43rd minute. Counihan lifted himself from the ground to take it, and duly converted to level the scores at 2-5 to 1-8. Clontibret re-took the lead a minute later before Chrissy McKenna scored a massive 45m to level the scores again with 10 minutes remaining. The home side pulled 2 points ahead, converting 2 frees with only 5 minutes left. Late points from Daniel McKenna and Neil McRory levelled the match going into injury time. Though both sides had chances to win it at the end, a draw was probably the fair result at 2-8 to 1-11. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; John McCarron, Niall Feely, Darren Todd; Rory Treanor, Damian McRory, Justin Halligan; Pauric Treanor, Niall McQuillan; Niall Coyle, Daniel McKenna (0-2, 1f), Adam Teanor (1-0); Christopher McKenna (0-2, 1f 1x45m), Paudie McKenna (0-2), Eoghan Kelly (0-1). 11/05/12: Senior Football League Rd 6: Latton 0-10 Gaeil Triucha 1-02; On Friday last we played Latton and lost 1-2 to 0-10. We were kept scoreless in the 1st half and were 0-0 to 0-6 down at the break. Latton increased this lead to 9 points before we registered our first score of the game in the 39th minute with a Niall Coyle goal. Latton hit another point in the 43rd minute before we scored the last 2 points of a very disappointing game to finish the match Latton 0-10 Gaeil Triucha 1-2. 02/05/12: Senior Football League Rd 9: Ballybay 1-05 Gaeil Triucha 0-08; We came away with a draw from our away match with Ballybay last Wednesday. Ballybay had 4 wins from 4 going into the game, hitting high scoring averages in each game. However, with the tightness of the Truagh defence and missed opportunities up front from both sides, this game turned into a very low scoring affair. Ballybay opened the scoring with 2 points inside the first 4 minutes and it wasn’t until the 17th minute when the next score of the match came, Chrissy McKenna converting a free to open our account. Ballybay added another point in the 22nd minute before Darren Todd reduced the margin to a point a minute later. Goal chances were spurned on both sides during this half and even allowing considerable injury time, the half time whistle was blown to a lowly score of Ballybay 0-3 Truagh 0-2. Adam Treanor opened the scoring in the second half with a point after 35 minutes, before Mark Counihan converted a free to put us ahead for the first time in the game in the 42nd minute. Adam Treanor added another in the 43rd minute to push the margin further. However, this lead was overturned in the 46th minute when Ballybay were awarded a penalty and duly scored. This was followed by another Ballybay point a minute later. Chrissy McKenna pulled back a point in the 49th minute before the home side struck again in the 51st minute to go 2 ahead. Being in a similar position before in recent games, this Truagh team again refused to accept defeat and brought the scores level with 5 minutes remaining after points from Gary Todd and a Mark Counihan free. Both sides had a number of attempts to win the match outright, but the final whistle blew with honours even, Ballybay 1-5 Gaeil Triucha 0-8. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; John McCarron, Niall Feely, Aidan Coyle; Paudie McKenna, Damian McRory, Justin Halligan; Pauric Treanor, Niall McQuillan; Niall Coyle, Rory Treanor, Adam Teanor (0-2); Christopher McKenna (0-2, 1f), Paddy McKenna, Darren Todd (0-1). Subs Used: Gary Todd (0-1) for Paddy McKenna (16mins), Mark Counihan (0-2f) for Darren Todd (39mins), Brendan Treanor for Niall Coyle (49mins) & Niall Coyle for Aidan Coyle (58mins). Our next match is on Friday 11th May away to Latton at 7.30pm. We follow this with another away match against Clontibret on Sunday 13th May at 5pm.

29/04/12: Senior Football League Rd 5: Gaeil Triucha 0-11 Scotstown 1-05; We played at home to Scotstown last Sunday afternoon and bounced back with a 3 point victory. Playing against a stiff breeze in the first half, we were behind from the 4th minute when Scotstown opened the scoring with a goal. The visitors added another point before we opened our account with a Chrissy McKenna point in the 9th minute. We continued to have chances in the next quarter but failed to convert while Scotstown increased the margin between the sides to 1-4 to 0-1 with 3 points in the 16th, 17th & 23rd minute. A late brace of points from Paudie McKenna near the end of the 1st half left us trailing at half time, 0-3 to 1-4. We started the second half in offensive mode, gradually reducing the deficit with scores from Chrissy McKenna (31’, 37’, 48’) and Paudie Treanor (49’) levelling the game. Scotstown responded in the 53rd minute with their only score of the second half to re-take the lead. However, their lead didn’t last long on this occasion as Chrissy McKenna equalised in the 54th minute before Paudie McKenna converted a free to put us ahead for the first time in the match with 3 minutes remaining. Niall Coyle added another point in the last minute, while sub Mark Couinhan converted a free in the 4th minute of injury time to record our second win of the campaign, 0-11 to 1-5. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; John McCarron, Niall Feely, Aidan Coyle; John Treanor, Damian McRory, Justin Halligan; Pauric Treanor, Niall McQuillan; Niall Coyle (0-1), Rory Treanor, Paudie McKenna (0-4, 3f); Christopher McKenna (0-5, 2f), Neil McRory, Daniel Finnegan. 25/04/12: Senior Football League Rd 4: Carrickmacross 1-11 Gaeil Triucha 0-12; We lost away to Carrickmacross in a wind swept evening last Wednesday, 0-12 to 1-11. Playing with a strong breeze in the first half, we didn’t get off to a good start as it was the home side who raced into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead after 13 minutes. We did however get on top of possession for the remainder of the half, scoring 6 points to Carrick 1, to leave the half time score Carrick 0-5 Truagh 0-7. Christopher McKenna opened the 2nd half scoring in the 32nd minute to increase our lead, but 4 successive points from Carrick between the 39th minute and 44th minute had us behind once again. Paudie McKenna then equalised with a point in the 45th minute. Carrick went ahead again 2 minutes later before we regained the lead with 9 minutes to go after scores from Justin Halligan and Niall McQuillan. The only goal of the game, scored in the 53rd minute, turned-over the lead again after a quick long ball bore fruition for the home side. Despite Truagh’s Paddy McKenna reducing the margin to just a point, 3 minutes later, it was Carrick who had the ast impact on the scoreboard, scoring a point in injury time to leave the full time result Carrickmacross 1-11 Truagh 0-12. Our team and scorers were: Martin Treanor; John McCarron, Niall Feely, John Treanor; Damian McRory, Aidan Coyle, Justin Halligan; Rory Treanor, Niall McQuillan; Eoghan Kelly, Niall Coyle (0-1), Paudie McKenna (0-2); Christopher McKenna (0-4, 1f, 1x50’), Paddy McKenna (0-1), Gary Todd. 21/04/12: Senior Football League Rd 3: Gaeil Triucha 2-12 Monaghan Harps 2-09; We gained our first victory of the league campaign with a spirited 3 point win over Monaghan Harps in St. Mellans. Though the harps took the lead in the 2nd minute, we started positively, hitting 5 successive points by the 17th minute to go 4 ahead. Our early scores came from a Paddy McKenna point and 2 each for Chrissy McKenna and Mark Counihan. The harps responded with a point in the 21st minute, before Paudie McKenna scored the first goal off the game in the 22nd minute to put us 6 points ahead. However, the goal was quickly cancelled out as the visitors scored their first goal a minute later. The harps reduced the margin to 2 in the 26th minute with another point, before Truagh went on the offensive again with points from Mark Counihan, Niall Coyle and a Paddy McKenna punched goal to send us 2-7 to 1-3 ahead at half time. Again it was the harps who scored first after the throw-in in the 31st minute with a point. But similar to the first half we responded, with points from Niall McQuillan (33’), Niall Coyle (34’) & Paddy McKenna to put us 9 points ahead after 37 minutes. The harps started to eat away at their deficit, scoring 1-4 in the next 10 minutes with only a Chrissy McKenna point for the gaeils to leave just 3 points between the 2 sides. With 6 minutes remaining the harps reduced this to 2 points, and with the game now in balance, it took a Niall Coyle point 3 minutes from the end to settle the home side and ring in the first 2 league points of the year with a 2-11 to 2-8 victory. In a competitive first half, we started well, taking a 0-4 to 0-2 lead after 14 minutes with a hatrick of points from Mark Counihan and one from Niall Coyle. Magheracloone levelled 2 minutes later, converting frees- a trait that was starting to become the norm for the home side. Points were then traded with points coming from Christopher McKenna and Paudie McKenna to keep the scores even at 0-6 each after 20 minutes. Magheracloone then went ahead in the 23rd minute before Mark Counihan punched the ball to the net to register our first goal of the year and put us ahead. Just before the break, Mageracloone narrowed the lead with another free to leave the half time score Magheracloone 0-8 Gaeil Triucha 1-6. Magheracloone resumed the second half with a score to level matters. We responded with 3 quick points, scored from Daniel Finnegan and a brace from sub Neil McRory, to put us 3 ahead with 22 minutes to go. 11/04/12: Senior Football League Rd 1: Gaeil Triucha 0-09 Castleblayney 1-11; We lost out to Castleblayney in our opening league game in St. Mellans. Mark Counihan opened our scoring account of the year with a 8th minute point to put us in front. In the 9th minute we had the luxury of having the advantage of an additional player after the sending off of a ‘blayney player. Despite this, it was an even contest for the remainder of the half with Pauric Treanor getting our second point of the game and Markl Couionhan converting 3 frees to put us 2 in front in the 23rd minute. Despite the numerical disadvantage, it was Castleblayney who struck the games only goal in the 28th minute to go 1-5 0-5 ahead. Counihan responded with a pointed free in injury time to leave the half time score Gaeil Triucha 0-6 Casleblayney 1-5. Upon the re-start, it was Castleblayney who started stronger registering 2 points by the 34th minute to go 4 ahead. We controlled the game in the following 20 minutes, yet failed to convert several chances. Scoring only 3 times, and all from the place-kicking of Mark Counihan, we were 2 points behind by the 52nd minute. In the 59th minute, Castleblayney increase their lead, 22 minute s from their previous score. In an eventful injury time, it was the Faughs who added to the scoreboard, hitting another 2 points to put 5 between the sides. 05/02/12: Senior Ulster League: Trillick 2-12 Gaeil Triucha 2-07: We lost out by 5 points in the first game of our Ulster League campaign on Sunday to Trillick. We started the game strongly and were 2-4 to 0-2 up by the 16th minute. Our goals came from Mark Counihan in the 7th minute and a Niall Coyle strike in the 16th where he got more value of the ball in the lead up than a Cavan man in Lidl. Trillick managed to narrow this gap by the break, converting a last minute penalty, to leave the scores in favour of us 2-4 to 1-4. Wholesale changes throughout the 2nd half to the team slowed our scoring rate yet by the 53rd minute we were still 1 goal ahead at 2-7 to 1-7.
