02/07/09: Hurling Senior Championship - we play Clontibret tonight in the first round of the senior championship in Gavin Duffy Park, Monaghan at 8pm. Come out and support our boys for their biggest game this year so far. 01/07/09: SFL
Rd 11; Carrickmacross 0-13 Gaeil Triucha 0-16: The return of Gary Meehan and Noel Clerkin to the
forward ranks bolstered our senior side considerably, where we ran out
worthy winners against Carrickmacross last Wednesday in a compelling match
0-16 to 0-13. Carrickmacross,
playing at home, opened the scoring after a slow start with a converted
free on 8 minutes. Truagh replied with 4 unanswered points from Daniel
Finnegan, Noel Clerkin (free), John Treanor and Gary Feely. Points were
then traded, with Carrick scoring 2 more frees while Neil McRory (free)
and Gary Meehan scored for Truagh. Noel Clerkin then added another point
to extend the lead to 4 points on 25 minutes. Carrick showed
their resilience registering 3 points before the break to leave the half
time score Carrickmacross 0-6 Gaeil Triucha 0-7. Carrickmacross started the second half the better side, going ahead 0-10 to 0-9 by scoring 4 points in the 3rd quarter against our 2 points from Gary Meehan and Noel Clerkin (free). However it was the final quarter where Truagh played some of their best football played this season, registering an impressive 7 points against Carrick’s 3 to finish the game 3 point victors. The Truagh scores in the final quarter came from John Treanor, a Neil McRory free, a brace of points from Gary Meehan and a hat-trick of points from Noel Clerkin. It was a well timed win for the senior side who now lie level with Doohamlet on 7 points in the league in joint 8th position.
