U-10 Blitz 2009

U-10 Blitz in St. Mellans: We held a successful blitz on Saturday 15th August 2009 in St. Mellans. 21 teams from across Ulster took part in an enjoyable day with over 250 players taking part. 

The teams were divided into 5 groups, each competing to advance into the main competition or the second tier shield trophy. The 5 groups of teams were:

Group A:

Newbridge

Crossmaglen

Newry Mitchells

Monaghan Harps

 Group B:

Madden

Clones

Gaeil triucha

Pearse Og

 Group C:

Scotstown

Donaghmoyne

Group D:

U-10 John Treanor Cup

The 8 teams that advanced to the cup competition were: Newbridge, Errigal Ciaran, Gaeil Triucha, Armagh Harps, Crossmaglen, Clan Eireann, Donaghmoyne and St. Pats, Donagh. 

 Quarter Final Scores:

Newbridge         0-2       Errigal Ciaran     1-3      

Gaeil Triucha     0-7       Armagh Harps   1-3

Crossmaglen      0-4       Clan Eireann      0-7

Donaghmoyne   1-3       St. Pats             1-1

 Semi Final Scores:

Gaeil Triucha     1-4       Clan Eireann      1-5 aet

Errigal Ciaran     1-8       Donaghmoyne   0-1

 Final:

Errigal Ciaran     3-5       Clan Eireann      1-7

 

Errigal Ciaran was presented with the John Treanor Cup by Mary Treanor. Player of the tournament was then awarded to Aidan McConville from the Clan Eireann club.

 

Shield Competition: 

Eight teams qualified for the shield quarter finals. They were: Monaghan Harps, Galbally, Moy, Clones, Emyvale, Magheracloone, Scotstown and Eire Og.

 Shield Quarter Final Scores:

Monaghan Harps1-3       Galbally             1-1

Moy                  0-3       Clones               2-3

Emyvale            1-2       Magheracloone  3-2

Scotstown          2-6       Eire Og              1-0

 Shield Semi Final Scores:

Monaghan Harps 3-3      Clones               1-0

Magheracloone    4-2     Scotstown          2-2

 Shield Final:

Monaghan Harps  2-1       Magheracloone  0-8 aet

 After a marathon final where extra time was required twice to separate the sides, Monaghan Harps were awarded the Shield Trophy presented by Brian Rafferty (Gaeil Triucha Juvenile Chairman). 

 

Man of the match for the shield final was awarded to Aidan Byrne.
