We remained in front until the 16th minute before Casleblayney scored their first goal, to make it 1-4 each. Our intervening point came from Niall McQuillan. Only 2 further points were scored in the remainder of the second half, both for Truagh with Keith Sheerin converted a 45m and Gary Meehan opening his scoring to leave the half time score 1-6 to 1-4 in favour of us. The home side responded immediately from the second half throw-in, scoring a goal, followed by 2 points to put them in front 2-6 to 1-6 on 37 minutes. Daniel Finnegan replied with a point on 38 minutes before ‘Blayney added a further 2 to put 4 between the sides. A long range opportunist goal by sub Daniel McKenna, reduced the deficit to a minimum midway through the 2nd half. It was the closest the sides would get for the remainder of the game as Castlblayney extended the lead to 3 points with 10 minutes remaining. 6 points were shared between the sides in the last 10, our points coming from Daniel McKenna and a brace of freekicks from Mark Counihan to leave the final score reading 2-10 to 2-13. Seniors: We beat Clontibret 1-9 to 1-8 on Wednesday night last in St. Mellans. It was a much needed win and a victory that was predominantly built on from a healthy 5 point lead at half time. After going behind by a point in the 8th minute, we scored 1-4 without reply to lead by 6 points in the 25th minute. Our goal came from Noel Clerkin, while the points were spread between Mark Counihan, Gary Meehan, Noel Clerkin and a free from Neil McRory. Clontibret responded with a point, just before the break, and then added another 2 points at the resumption of the 2nd half to leave a goal between the sides on 40 minutes. Gary Meehan and Noel Clerkin shot a point each in the 42nd and 44th minute to further distance the gap between the sides. Clontibret proceeded to hit their purple patch of the game, hitting a successive 1-4 to take the lead for the first time in the game on 51 minutes. Midfielder, Barry Cuddy, equalized a minute later, but Clontibret re-established their lead with another point with 6 minutes remaining. However, this did not deter Truagh as we worked possession into the oppositions half resulting in frees that Neil McRory converted in the 58th and 60th minute to give us a much needed 1 point victory.  Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Niall McQuillan, Niall Feely, Niall Coyle; Rory Treanor, Keith Sheerin, Darren Todd;  Neil McRory  (0-3f), Barry Cuddy (0-1); Pauric Treanor, Noel Clerkin (1-2), Niall McMeel; Gary Meehan (0-2), Mark Counihan (0-1), Daniel Finnegan. Minors: We were beaten in the semi-final of the minor championship by Latton, 0-10 to 1-09, last Tuesday evening in Clontibret. Christopher McKenna opened the scoring in the first minute with a converted free to put us ahead for the only occasion of the game. Latton replied with the only goal of the game on 4 minutes and added a point a minute later. We responded with 2 points, another Christopher McKenna point (7) and our last point of the half scored by Daniel McKenna-free on 11 minutes, closing the gap to a single point. Latton added a further 3 points before half time (13, 16 & 18mins) to leave 4 between the sides, 0-3 to 1-4.

We opened the second half with a much improved effort registering 4 points in the opening 10 minutes, 2 each from Sean McKenna and Christopher McKenna. Seniors: We put our disappointment from our first 2 games behind with a deserved home win over Ballybay on Wednesday evening, 2-9 to 1-8. We opened the game in tremendous form which saw us open a 2-5 to 0-0 lead after 25 minutes. Our goals came from defender Damian McRory and a Daniel McKenna penalty, who was making his first start for the senior side. Ballybay registered their first score, a goal on 27 minutes, and added a point before the interval to leave the half time scores Truagh 2-5 Ballybay 1-1. In the second half, Ballybay closed the gap further with 4 successive points to leave just a goal between the sides on 40 minutes. However, we responded with fine resolve sharing the next 6 points in the following 20 minutes before Daniel McKenna hit a long range point in injury time to secure our first win of the season, 2-9 to 1-8. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Darren Todd, Niall Feely, Rory Treanor; Niall McQuillan, Damian McRory (1-0), Niall Coyle (0-1); Barry Cuddy (0-1), Gary Feely (0-1); Niall McMeel, Neil McRory (0-1), John Treanor; Daniel McKenna (1-4, 1p3f), Noel Clerkin (0-1f), Ciaran Treanor. Subs used: Sean McKenna for Ciaran Treanor (16mins) & Paul Donaghue for John Treanor (48mins).

We were out at home again on Sunday but lost to Carrickmacross, 0-7 to 0-9. We started the game brightly going 2 points in front with scores from Daniel Finnegan and Neil McRory. Carrick then started to exert their influence on the game, shooting 4 points without reply.  2 points were shared in the last minute of the half, with ours coming from John Treanor to leave us behind at half time, 0-3 to 0-5. On the resumption of the second half, points were again exchanged, Noel Clerkin pointing for us. We then pushed level at 0-6 each on 43 minutes with scores from John Treanor and a converted free from Noel Clerkin. The away side regained their lead with additional points on 49 and 57 minutes. And although a converted Noel Clerkin free with 2 minutes remaining gave us some optimism for taking at least a draw, Carrick extinguished this hope with a further point to leave the scores at full time 0-7 to 0-9 in favour of the visitors. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Darren Todd, Niall Feely, Rory Treanor; Niall McQuillan, Damian McRory, Niall Coyle; Barry Cuddy, Gary Feely; Niall McMeel, Neil McRory (0-1), John Treanor (0-2); Daniel Finnegan (0-1), Noel Clerkin (0-3, 2f), Ciaran Treanor.  Subs used: Pauric Treanor for Ciaran Treanor (38mins) & Paul Donaghue for John Treanor (54mins).

The event is held in the Hillgrove hotel on the May bank holiday Sunday, 2nd May and is sponsored by Silver Hill Foods. Tickets can be obtained from any of the boxers or club committee members, price €20.

Seniors: Our seniors lost in their first league game of the year at home to Scotstown, 0-7 to 1-7. The team will be disappointed with the loss as they had the better of Scotstown in many positions and missed several scoring opportunities throughout the game. It was Scotstown who started their campaign brightly though, registering 1-2 to 0-0 after 11 minutes. It was not until the 17th minute that Truagh scored first, a Noel Clerkin point. Indeed, we only added one further score to our tally before half time, a Keith Sheerin point to leave the half time score Gaeil Triucha 0-2 Scotstown 1-5. We were the dominant side in the second half. After an initial Scotstown point, we went on to score 4 successive points with 14 minutes left to play. However, in the last quarter, we failed to capitalise on our supremacy, where both teams shared a score to finish the game 0-7 to 1-7. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Darren Todd, Niall Feely, Rory Treanor; Keith Sheerin (0-1), Damian McRory, Niall Coyle (0-2); Barry Cuddy, Gary Feely; Niall McMeel, Neil McRory, Pauric Treanor; Daniel Finnegan (0-1), Noel Clerkin (0-3, 2f), Mark Counihan. Subs used: Niall McQuillan for Keith Sheerin (57 mins), Ciaran McCarron for Pauric Treanor (57 mins) & Paul Donaghue for Ciaran McCarron (60mins).

We were out again on Sunday and in a below par performance, we lost away to Latton, 0-06 to 1-12. We started the game promisingly going 0-4 to 0-2 up on 10 minutes with our scores coming from Niall McMeel and frees from Gary Feely and two from Noel Clerkin. Latton then registered the only goal of the game, along with a point, to go 2 in front. We then hit back with a converted free from Noel Clerkin to close the gap to a point on 16 minutes. However, Latton dominated the remainder of the half, stretching the lead to 4 points at half time, 0-5 to 1-6. Our second half display was a rather forgettable one. Though we opened the scoring with a Niall Coyle point on 34 minutes, it turned out to be our last score of the game. Latton controlled the game, scoring a further 6 points, of which 3 were scored with 14 men, after one of their midfielder’s was sent off. The final score was 0-6 to 1-12. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Darren Todd, Niall Feely, Rory Treanor; Pauric Treanor, Damian McRory, Niall McQuillan; Barry Cuddy, Ronan McKenna; Niall Coyle (0-1), Gary Feely (0-1f), Niall McMeel (0-1); Alan Treanor, Noel Clerkin (0-3, 3f), Ciaran Treanor.  Subs used: Daniel McKenna for Pauric Treanor (HT) & Paul Donaghue for Ronan McKenna (43mins).

County Championships: Congratulations to Niall Mc Meel and Padraig Mc Kenna on winning the Novice 4 and U18 titles at the weekend. Niall was up against an experienced Bawn player in Brendan Mc Ardle, but came out victorious on a score line of 21-11 5-21 21-14. Niall's stamina showed through in the end to take the title and next year will enter the novice 3 grade. Congratulations Niall. Padraig was victorious against fellow team-mate Christopher McKenna and watching this match first hand it is easy to see why these men have so many titles at club, county, college, provincial, national and international level. Christopher took the first match on a score line of 21-13, leaving Paudie to pull out all the stops and take the second 21-15. Entering the deciding set, the two players exchanged serve and points throughout the game, until Paudie finally started to pull away. However, Chris dug deep and started to peg him back and was doing so but maybe his undoing was trying to kill to many balls and let Paudie back in on several occasions. Paudie is not the type of player who gets back in without punishing you, and finally closed out the game on a score line of 21-12. Both players must be congratulated on the display of skill and fitness they show it was a credit to both players.
