18/08/08     Under 16 Football Division1 Championship Final

A draw after extra time was probably fairest result of this game played in Emyvale last Friday evening 15th August. Truagh started the brighter and were three points up after five minutes, with a brace from Christopher Me Kenna and one from Sean Mc Kenna.

Clontribet started to come into the game and after fifteen minutes were back on level terms with two points from Ryan Mc Guigan and one from Mark Ward. Sean Mc Kenna was proving to be a thorn in Clontribet's side and after a great pass from Daniel Mc Kenna on sixteen minutes left Sean one on one with the keeper and he made no mistake hitting the back of the net.

Three minutes later he was on target again with a point to leave Truagh 1 -4 to 0-3 to the good. Once again Clontribet game back at Truagh and by the 22min they were back on level terms with a point from Ryan Mc Guigan, and a goal from corner forward Conor Lavelle. In the 26th min Clontribet took the lead for the first time with a point from Mark Ward. This lead only lasted 2 mins when Sean Mc Kenna got on the ball and his shot dipped under the crossbar for his and Truagh's second goal. On  30mins Clontribets full forward Ryan Mc Guigan pointed from a free to leave the half time score 2-4 to 1-6 to Truagh.

Like the first half Truagh got the better start and after 2mins had another 2 points on the score board,- one a free from Christopher Mc Kenna and a point from play from Brendan Treanor. Once again Clontribet came back and on 4 mins they got a point from their No 8 David Savage. A minuute and a half later Clontribet were awarded a 45 and the same player pointed from the ground.

Within another minute Truagh raised the green flag again with a goal from Christopher Mc Kenna. Clontribet kept in touch with a point from Eoin Mc Guigan, 2 minutes later their three point lead with a point from Sean O Brein. On 13mins Clontribet cut the deficit to 2 points with a point from Ryan Mc Guigan, one minute later Truagh restored their 3 point lead with a point from Christopher Mc Kenna. On 20minutes Daniel Mc Kenna had to be replaced through injury by Christopher Meehan. In the next 2 mins. Clontribet scored a goal and a point to put them in the lead for only the second time. On 24minutes Daniel Mc Kenna returned to the field of play and immediately scored a point from a free.

3minutes later Clontibet went one up again with a point from Ryan Mc Guigan. Christopher Me Kenna leveled matters 2 minutes later which lead to a nailbitting finish. In the dying seconds Clontribet pushed for a winner but some termendous defeneding by the Truagh backs and especially a block from Eoin Kelly meant the sides finished level at 3-9 to 2-12.

Extra time was only 30seconds old when Clontribet went into the lead again with a point from Ryan Mc Guigan. 3minutes later Christopher Mc Kenna was fouled and the same player stepped up to take the resulting free.

In the second period of injury time Clontribet took the lead again with a point form Eoin Mc Guigan. Cramp was now playing a big part in the game which lead to a lot of injury time. In injury time Truagh were denied by the cross bar after a crafty little flick by Christopher Mc Kenna, the ball was cleared out for a 45 which was taken by Daniel Mc Kenna. He took it short to Brendan Treanor and received a return pass to point from all of 35yrds to leave the score 3-11 to 2-14. The referee blew  the final whistle on the next kick out which meantt both teams have to do it all again.
