The
Truagh Hunt for The Hunk:
Saturday night in St. Mellans saw Truagh hold their hunt for the hunk
challenge. The contest was held before a large crowd, vying for their
favourite to win. 10 hunks were in competition for the coveted title: Darren
Todd, John Treanor, Niall Coyle, Niall McQuillan, Daniel McKenna, Niall
McMeel, Darren Feely, Donal Skinnader, Ian Treanor & Francis McKenna.
The 10 hunks gave sheer entertainment from start to finish on the night.
World peace and affection for domestic animals was a common overture
portrayed by the contestants! The hunks were assisted on stage by their
escorts who on a number of occasions charmed Ciaran Treanor, the MC on the
night. The hunks each carried out a party piece, with Darren Feely most
likely being the audience’s favourite piece with a Declan Nerney number.
The hunks completed the nights entertainment with a collective full monty
dance that went down particular well with the finer half of the audience.
The prize of Truagh’s hunk went to the candidate who received the most
public votes which was declared as Ian ‘deadly’ Treanor. Ian now
prevails to the county level of the competition. The event was a great
success and the participants duly applauded for their humour in achieving
this. Monies raised on the night went to the Gaeil Triucha club, Cormac
McAnallen trust and children hospital services.

Ian Treanor receives his prize after being crowned the Truagh Hunk.

SFL Rd 18, Carrickmacross 0-08 Gaeil Triucha 0-14; We secured senior status for 2011 with a win over Carrickmacross last Sunday, 0-14 to 0-8. It was a victory that was achieved with a valiant second half performance and whole team effort, as our 14 scores were spread between 8 different players.
Carrick raced into a 2 point lead after 5 minutes, but were then rocked when they had 2 dismissals on separate incidents in the opening 10. We took advantage of this by scoring 4 consecutive points in 7 minutes to go ahead by 2 after 14 minutes. However, despite their numerical disadvantage, it was the home side who finished the half stronger outscoring us 4 points to 1 to leave the half time score Carrickmacross 0-6 Gaeil Triucha 0-5.
Only a 3 point victory would suffice our senior survival hopes and it was in the second half that the Truagh lads duly obliged with a tremendous 2nd half performance. Carrick widened the point’s gap to 2 in the opening minute of the half, but we leveled the game after 38 minutes with points from Daniel McKenna and Niall Coyle. Noel Clerkin (44’), Daniel McKenna (47’) and sub Daniel Finnegan (49’) then put the important 3 points between the sides with just 10 minutes remaining. Daniel McKenna then had the score of the game with a point from a side line ball to put 4 between the sides on 51 minutes. Carrick reduced the lead to 3 a minute later with their last score of the game. Unusually, it was the Truagh full back line who broke away to score the final 3 points, Rory Treanor (55’ & 60’) and Niall Felly (57’) to finish the game 6 point victors, with a fulltime of Carrickmacross 0-8 Gaeil Triucha 0-14.
The win meant we had accumulated 16 points over the season, joint with Carrickmacross. However, as we finished ahead of Carrick on head to head score basis, 0-21 to 0-17 in aggregate, we finished a place above them. The consolidation of our position in senior can hopefully now propel us to challenge for senior honours in the near future.
Our team and scorers were:
Ian Treanor;
Niall McQuillan, Niall Feely (0-1), Rory Treanor (0-2);
Damian McRory, Keith Sheerin, Niall Coyle (0-1);
Barry Cuddy (0-1), Neil McRory;
Niall McMeel, John Treanor, Pauric McKenna;
Daniel McKenna (0-4, 1f, 1sl), Noel Clerkin (0-2, 1f), Mark Counihan (0-1).
Subs used: Daniel Finnegan (0-1) for Neil McRory (43mins), Christopher McKenna for John Treanor (48mins) & Mike Treanor for Rory Treanor (60mins).
